James E. "Joker / Grumpy" Barney
Funeral services for 42-year old James Ezra Barney II, of Parishville, New York, will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Potsdam United Methodist Church with the Revs. James Barnes and Tom Nichols co-pastoring. Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam on Wednesday, July 30, from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at Seymour Funeral Home on Wednesday evening at 8:30 p.m.. James died July 24, 2014, in Ray Brook, New York from injuries sustained in an automobile accident, which also claimed the life of his wife, Kimberly. Burial will be in the Sand Hill Cemetery, Dickinson, New York following the funeral service.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Helen Barney of Heuvelton; a son, Conor Barney of Lisbon; four daughters, Kathryn Barney of Lisbon and Kayla Bedore, Rebecca Colby and Emily Colby all of Parishville; two brothers: Harold (Cindy) Covey of Oxford, New York, and Terry (Trudy) Covey of Ogdensburg; two sisters: Sharon (John) LaShomb of Lawrenceville and Wanda Garrish, living in Oklahoma; his mother- and father-in-law, Timothy and Charlene Randall of Parishville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James was predeceased by his father, James E. Barney, and his grandparents, Stephen and Mary Barney, former residents of North Bangor; and Harold and Dorothy Hazen, former residents of Moira.
Mr. Barney was born Aug. 7, 1971, in Ogdensburg, New York, the son of James E. and Helen Barney. He graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1990 and received his degree in criminal justice from SUNY Canton College. He married Myrna Layng May 13, 1995, with the marriage ending in divorce.
